# Why Seiyuu Culture Is Dying This is an otaku talk after a really long time. Recently I explored seiyuu stuff again. I was surprised about how it has been dying. As a former hardcore seiyuu otaku, it felt so bad. Well of course not all things have died. Those Love Live! and iM@S seiyuus still go well. Seiyuus of famous games like Blue Archive, Zenless Zone Zero, &c. go well. Seiyuus of famous animes like Demon Slayer go well. I guess those Bushiroad seiyuus still go well. Maybe MusicRay'n too? I don't know. But as a culture, it feels totally dead. Just looking at recent Seiyuu Grand Prix magazine makes me feel like that. The listing of seiyuus almost hasn't changed since late 2010s. It is becoming a fossil. So why? Short answer: Vtubers & COVID19 Besides acting, seiyuus have been celebrities for otakus. They have been basically "Funny weirdos who can sing well and often be beautiful". That's literally Vtubers now. I hate that Vtubers became just Youtubers with avatars. Especially if you see Aogiri that's too obvious. Most companies are going that way. Though not as radical as them. I don't think it truly belongs to anime culture now. But it also means better studio quality. And more normie friendliness called popularity. I have to admit that some of them are actually great singers. Additionally, famous vocaloid producers often compose for them. That's also true for seiyuus though. But far less often. And seiyuus do not cover songs as much as Vtubers. As a response, there are projects like Hasunosora. I don't like that way. There are some things I have say. But for the most, why should art sync with the superficial part of the reality? So I don't like this change. Especially because I like acting part of seiyuus. Not just acting itself. But when they sing, they act too. They act even when they just speak. In contrast, Vtubers do not act that much. That feels quite soulless.
