# Some Mysteries About Kyoto Although I have visited Kyoto many times, I haven't lived in Kyoto. But strangely when I see Kyoto, it feels so nostalgic. In contrast, when I see my hometown it doesn't feel that nostalgic. Is Kyoto my hometown in my previous life or something? Also since there is the height limit of buildings, Kyoto does not feel like a city. There is no high-rise building except Kyoto tower. It is another weird thing. Because Kyoto literally means the capital city. Medieval people thought that Kyoto is THE city. Some Kyoto people still think like that. But it does not feel like a city at all. Is it country? No. Then what is it? I guess the tradition of Kyoto shows why and how modernity sucks. I might be just nostalgic about premodern times.
