A beautiful person without any makeup is far better than an average
person with full face makeup.

This is not limited to visuals. For example simple cooking with
good ingredients is far better than highly technical cooking with
bad ingredients. And simplicity is rather plus than minus in these
cases.

Maybe all those techniques are meaningless in the end.
