# Fasting Although I'm not an orthodox Christian, I tried some fasting. And that quite moved me. You will realise how bloated your eating has been. Especially when you wash the dishes. It makes your eating unbelievably clean. Not only spiritually. But also physically. So I'm going to try this on every Wednesday and Friday. Like every orthodox Christian. If it works, I would also try lent, &c. at the times. These are the rules. ## Rules No meat. No dairy & eggs. No fish. Shellfishes and animals without backbones in general seem controversal. In Greece, it seems OK. In Romania, it seems not OK. If it's OK, you can eat prawn, mussel, snail, &c. This includes honey. Because bees make it. Since it is controversal, I'm not going to eat. No oil. No alcohol. ## Note There are tons of great lent meal plans. You can try any of them. But for me, this restriction just seems like traditional Japanese cuisine before the Meiji restoration. So by that idea, * You can use dashi to substitute oil. Konbu and shiitake are great. But you can't use katsuobushi. * You can't use mirin and sake. But there are lots of healthy substitutes anyway. * Tofu, fu, yuba, kinako, soymilk to substitute animal products. But you can't use aburaage. * Maybe mushrooms and konjac to substitute seafoods. If shellfishes are OK, you can just use them.
