# Eat Barley Barley is too underrated in the modern world. It is way healthier than wheat and rice. And it is not that expensive unlike buchwheat. Although it is hard to make a bread with it because of the low gluten content compared to wheat, that is now an advantage. In ancient Greece, it was wheat & barley similar to wheat & rice today. Since barley is easy to grow in poor soils, there were tons of them. Ancient Romans continued this although they prefered wheat more than barley. Especially gladiators were barley eaters. Byzantines continued that partially because of its Greek nature. In medieval western Europe, it was the principal grain for peasants while wheat was the principal grain for upper classes. But you know what? In medieval times, peasants ate more healthier than upper classes lol. But since Renaissance, barley has declined. Especially after potatoes came from America, the main staple has changed to potatoes even for the traditional barley eating societies. Today barley is mainly for animal feedings. So long story short, eat barley. Reject modernity. Embrace tradition.
