# Don't Be Trapped By Your Body > But if you shut your soul up in the body and abase it and say, > 'I understand nothing, I can do nothing; I fear the sea, I cannot > go up to heaven; I do not know what I was, I do not know what I > will be,' then what have you to do with god? While you are evil > and a lover of the body, you can understand none of the things > that are beautiful and good. > > Corpus Hermeticum XI, 21 If you have a disability, should the disability define yourself? Then how about these: If your skin color is black. If you are male and your height is 150cm. Or even, if you were an athlete and you have lost your legs by an accident. &c. NONE OF THESE MATTERS. Don't be trapped by a cross named your body. Of course no hedonism. But having an inferiority complex about your body is equally evil. Those are the same obsession with your body. Don't do self-pity too. Your disability should not define yourself. If you have lost your legs, run with artificial legs. Or even with a wheel chair. Those are challenges. Surpassing them makes people heroic and noble.
