# Distributism And Fediverse Recently I've accidently met an ideology called "distributism" and I've immediately found myself a distributist. So I really want to introduce this ideology. What is distributism? To define simply, ------------------------------------------------------------------ Distributism : Widespread private ownership of means of production ------------------------------------------------------------------ I think this could be the core definition although distributism is not all about economy. Originally it came from Catholic social teachings. But you don't have to be a Catholic for distributism. You could also call this system "ownership economy". If you define capitalism as "private ownership of means of production", then distributism is a form of capitalism. But in typical capitalism, few people control the means of production while most people can't. As a result, most people become wageslaves and overdepend on the system. In distributism, private ownership is widespread so that most people can be self-sufficient or can live by running small family businesses. This will preserve family and community values too. Distributism opposes socialism. Because socialism is like "Private property sucks. So let's remove it and share instead". While distributism is "Private property is so important. Hence we should make sure that everyone can get own private property". Distributism encourages cooperation though. But it is more through cooperatives and guilds. Not through socialism way. The ideology underneath the fediverse is exactly distributism. Neocities and other web0 things too. Let's see what I discussed in this example. * Typical capitalism: Few people control the centralised servers like Twitter and YouTube. Most people are "users" or "content creators" of these platforms. * Socialism: Instead of owning the centralised servers, let's share the platform as a decentralised network like a blockchain. * Distributism: Let's build own individual websites. Make webrings and federate via ActivityPub. So I support distributism as well as I support Neocities, web0 and fediverse.
