# Distributism And Fediverse Recently I've accidently met an ideology called "distributism" and I've immediately found myself a distributist. So I really want to introduce this ideology. What is distributism? To define simply, ------------------------------------------------------------------ Distributism : Widespread private ownership of means of production ------------------------------------------------------------------ I think this could be the core definition although distributism is not all about economy. Originally it came from Catholic social tea chings. But you don't have to be a Catholic for distributism. I co uld also call this system "ownership economy". If you define capitalism as "private ownership of means of product ion", then distributism is a form of capitalism. But in typical ca pitalism, few people control the means of production while most pe ople can't. As a result, most people become wageslaves and overdep end on the system. In distributism, private ownership is widesprea d so that most people can be self-sufficient or can live by runnin g small family businesses. This will preserve family and community values too. Distributism strongly opposes socialism. Because socialism is like "Private property sucks. So let's remove it and share instead" whi le distributism is "Private property is so important. Hence we sho uld make sure that everyone can get own private property". Distrib utism encourages cooperation though but it is more through coopera tives and guilds. Not through socialism way. Thus you can say that distributism is the third way. But I would s ay it is the zeroth way because in the past this was more normal. The ideology underneath the fediverse is exactly distributism. Neo cities and other web0 things too. Let's see what I discussed in th is example. * Typical capitalism: Few people control the means of production ( centralized servers) like Twitter and YouTube. Most people are wag eslaves ("users" or "content creators") of these platforms. * Socialism: Instead of owning the means of production (centralize d servers), let's share the platform as a decentralized network li ke a blockchain. * Distributism: Let's build own individual websites. Make webrings and federate via ActivityPub. So I support distributism as well as I support Neocities, web0 and fediverse.
